# Trade .edge Symbols in MT4 and MT5

Find .edge symbols in MetaTrader 4 and 5, check their specification, place orders, read commission on the trade line and run Expert Advisors.

On an EDGE account, only orders on symbols with the `.edge` suffix receive EDGE pricing. This page shows how to find those symbols and how to read the cost of a trade.

## Show the .edge symbols

### MetaTrader 4

<figure><img src="https://1464240515-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FsUxIYPiScWr2xuS89YX3%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-712b9b4e271b5db0150cd2c7ab39f802b3387cce%2Fmarket-watch.png?alt=media" alt="Market Watch on an MT5 demo account: every symbol carries the .edge suffix, metals first, then the Forex pairs" width="320"><figcaption><p>Market Watch on an MT5 demo account: every symbol carries the .edge suffix, metals first, then the Forex pairs.</p></figcaption></figure>

1. Right-click inside **Market Watch** and select **Show All**.
2. Find the symbols that end in `.edge`, for example `EURUSD.edge`.
3. To keep the list short, right-click a symbol you do not trade and select **Hide**.

### MetaTrader 5

1. Right-click inside **Market Watch** and select **Show All**. Every `.edge` symbol appears, metals first, then the Forex pairs.
2. To pick symbols one by one instead, select **Symbols** (**Ctrl+U**), type `.edge` in the search box, and select **Show Symbol** for each one.
3. To keep the list short, right-click a symbol you do not trade and select **Hide**.

## Check the specification

Right-click a `.edge` symbol in **Market Watch** and select **Specification**. Check the contract size, the minimum volume and the volume step, the margin currency, the swap rates and the trading sessions before you trade. The commission is not part of the specification; it is shown on the trade line.

<figure><img src="https://1464240515-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FsUxIYPiScWr2xuS89YX3%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-711e5f8a0bdc44db5cff825ea46831c2f37bfbb9%2Fspecification.png?alt=media" alt="The Specification of GBPJPY.edge: contract size, floating spread, stops level, margin and profit currencies, market execution, Fill or Kill, and the order types" width="520"><figcaption><p>The Specification of GBPJPY.edge: contract size, floating spread, stops level, margin and profit currencies, market execution, Fill or Kill, and the order types.</p></figcaption></figure>

On the MetaTrader 5 demo server, a `.edge` Forex symbol shows **Execution: Market**, **Filling: Fill or Kill**, **Stops level: 0**, a floating spread, and the order types **Market, Limit, Stop, Stop Loss** and **Take Profit**. Stop-limit orders are not listed for `.edge` symbols.

## Place an order

Orders on `.edge` symbols work exactly like orders on any other symbol. Select the `.edge` symbol in the order window, enter the volume, and send the order. See [MetaTrader 4: Trading](/accounts-and-platforms/trading-platforms/metatrader-4/trading.md) and [MetaTrader 5: Trading](/accounts-and-platforms/trading-platforms/metatrader-5/trading.md).

## Read the cost of a trade

* **Commission** – open the **Terminal** window in MetaTrader 4 (**Ctrl+T**) or the **Toolbox** in MetaTrader 5 and select the **Trade** tab. The **Commission** column shows the commission for each open position. Closed trades are listed under **Account History**.
* **Spread** – the difference between the bid and the ask at the moment you open a position. It is part of the open price, not a separate charge.
* **Swap** – the overnight charge or credit, shown in the **Swap** column.

## Expert Advisors and automation

* Expert Advisors and scripts run on `.edge` charts the same way as on any other chart. Attach the Expert Advisor to a `.edge` chart.
* Check the symbol names in the Expert Advisor's inputs. An Expert Advisor written for `EURUSD` needs `EURUSD.edge` on an EDGE account.
* EDGE has no separate API. Automation on EDGE runs through MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, in MQL4 and MQL5.

## Check that you are on EDGE

* The symbol name ends in `.edge`.
* The account card in the Cabinet shows EDGE as the account type.
* The **Commission** column on the trade line shows the flat commission.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If your **Market Watch** also shows symbols without the `.edge` suffix, do not trade them by mistake. Hide them, or check the symbol name in the order window before you send the order.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Trading involves a high level of risk and is not suitable for every investor. Losses can exceed the amount initially invested. Tradeview services are not offered in the United States or to US Persons.
