# EDGE Execution Technology (ILC)

How EDGE orders are filled: Tradeview's execution engine, the Instant Liquidity Connector, routes each order across several liquidity providers.

EDGE is new because of what happens behind your terminal. Most brokers route client orders through a third-party bridge to one liquidity source, with a mark-up on the spread. Tradeview built its own execution engine, the **Instant Liquidity Connector**, and EDGE is the account model that gives clients direct access to it: raw market prices from several liquidity providers, and a flat commission instead of a mark-up.

## Where the engine sits

Your order leaves MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5, enters the Instant Liquidity Connector on Tradeview's servers, and comes back as a fill. Everything in between happens automatically, within milliseconds, and needs nothing from you.

1. **Prices in** – the engine receives live prices from several top-tier liquidity providers at the same time and streams the best bid and the best offer to your terminal. That is the raw spread you see on a `.edge` symbol.
2. **A decision per order** – for every order, the engine compares the prices available at that moment and selects the best available execution for the size you trade.
3. **Split and aggregate** – a larger order can be split into smaller pieces, sent to different providers, and filled as one order at the aggregated price. You see one fill in your terminal.
4. **Controlled slippage** – the engine works the pieces inside its own pool at limit prices, so a fill cannot move beyond what the market showed at that moment. Positive slippage, when the market moves in your favour, is passed on to you.

## What is new in it

* **Built in-house.** Tradeview developed the engine itself instead of relying on a third-party bridge. The matching engine and the FIX connections to the liquidity providers are Tradeview's own, and they are built to manage liquidity, not only to pass orders through.
* **Several providers at once.** The pool of liquidity providers is connected simultaneously, and it grows: each provider added deepens the liquidity behind every `.edge` symbol and improves the prices the engine can find.
* **Executable prices, not display prices.** The engine prices what can be traded in the size you send, so the spread you get on a fill matches the spread you saw.
* **Institutional infrastructure for individual accounts.** Tradeview's trading servers sit in the LD4 data centre in London, connected by fibre to the liquidity providers, and EDGE accounts run on a dedicated server.

## What it means for your trades

| Pillar | What you get |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Better pricing | The raw market spread with no mark-up, plus a flat commission that is shown on the trade line. |
| Better execution | Each order finds the best available execution across the providers, automatically. |
| Lower slippage | Fills are limited to what the market justifies, and positive slippage is not filtered. |
| Deeper liquidity | Several providers behind every symbol, so larger orders fill without degrading the price. |
| Consistent performance | The engine makes the same decision in the same way in calm and in volatile markets. |
| Fair trading | Tradeview's stated aim for the engine: a fairer execution environment, with the same prices the broker itself sees. |

## What the engine is not

* Not a trading platform, a plugin or something you switch on. It is infrastructure behind MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5.
* Not a strategy, a signal or an indicator. It changes how your order is filled, not what you trade.
* Not a separate account to install. An EDGE account and the `.edge` symbols are all you need. See [Open an EDGE account or request a demo](/edge/open-an-account.md).

The [EDGE page](https://www.tradeviewmarkets.com/en/edge/) on the Tradeview website presents the same technology in Tradeview's marketing words and shows live spreads.
