# Migrate an Existing Account to EDGE

Move an ILC or XLev account to EDGE when it is flat, or open an extra EDGE account, and see what changes for leverage, trade size and symbols.

There are two ways to move to EDGE from an ILC or XLev account.

| Route | Use it when | What stays the same |
| ----------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| Change the existing account to EDGE | You want to keep one account, one login and your trade history. | The login, the password and the trade history. |
| Open an additional EDGE account | You want to keep trading on the existing account, or the existing account sits under an introducing broker. | Both accounts stay open; you move funds between them. |

## Route 1: change the existing account to EDGE

The change is possible only when the account is flat: no open positions and no pending orders. An account under an introducing broker cannot be changed; use route 2.

1. Close all open positions and delete all pending orders.
2. Ask your account manager, or [Contact Support](/support/contact-support.md), to change the account to EDGE. Give the account number.
3. Wait for the confirmation email. The login and the password stay the same; your trade history stays on the account.
4. Log in to MetaTrader with the server named in the confirmation email or on the account card.
5. Right-click inside **Market Watch**, select **Show All**, and trade the symbols that end in `.edge`. See [Trade .edge symbols](/edge/trade-edge-symbols.md).

### What changes after the move

* **Leverage** – the maximum becomes 1:100. A position that needed a certain margin at 1:200 or 1:400 needs more margin on EDGE. Check the required margin in the order window before you open a position.
* **Trade size** – the minimum becomes 0.10 lot. Orders below 0.10 lot are rejected unless the account is in the EDGE micro group.
* **Pricing** – the raw spread plus a flat commission, instead of the ILC commission or the XLev spread.
* **Symbols** – only `.edge` symbols receive EDGE pricing. Trade the `.edge` symbols from now on.
* **Expert Advisors** – update the symbol names in your Expert Advisors and scripts to the `.edge` symbols before you run them again.

{% hint style="warning" %}
After the change, orders on symbols without the `.edge` suffix are not on EDGE pricing. Check the symbol name in the order window until you are used to the new list.
{% endhint %}

## Route 2: open an additional EDGE account

1. Open an EDGE live account in the Cabinet. See [Open an EDGE account or request a demo](/edge/open-an-account.md).
2. Move funds from the existing account to the EDGE account. See [Transfers Between Accounts](/funding-and-transfers/transfers-between-accounts.md).
3. Log in to MetaTrader with the new account's login, password and server, and trade the `.edge` symbols.

Both accounts stay open. Open positions on the existing account are not affected.

## Accounts under an introducing broker

An account that sits under an introducing broker cannot be changed to EDGE. Open an additional EDGE account in the Cabinet, then move funds as in route 2. See [EDGE for introducing brokers](/edge/for-introducing-brokers.md).

{% hint style="warning" %}
Trading involves a high level of risk and is not suitable for every investor. Losses can exceed the amount initially invested. Tradeview services are not offered in the United States or to US Persons.
